In Okinawa you see it almost everywhere, shisha is a traditional decorative item in the shape that resembles a cross between a dog and a lion.
In Ryukyuan culture and Okinawan mythology it is believed that shisha protects against evil.
In Okinawa, it is customary to place a “pair of frames” on the sides of gates, at the entrance to the house, as chests or roofs.
The right shisha with an open mouth keeps the evil spirits away while the left one with a closed mouth keeps the good spirits away.
